Rasmus Hojlund has already made his stance on Manchester United crystal clear, but the club seem prepared to overlook it as the summer transfer window enters its final weeks.

The 22-year-old was omitted from Ruben Amorim’s squad for their first match of the season against Arsenal on Sunday as he continues linked with a move away. Last month, the Portuguese head coach refused to guarantee Hojlund’s future and, on Friday, declined to confirm whether he wanted to keep the Denmark international.

Despite uncertainty over his future, Hojlund made it clear during United’s pre-season tour of the United States that he was prepared to fight for a place in the team. “I think my plan is very clear and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens,” he said.

“Competition is fine with me, it sharpens me. I’m more than ready. I’m feeling sharp, so I’m welcoming everything that comes.”

Since then, Amorim has benched the Dane for two matches, left him unused in another and omitted him entirely from the competitive clash with Arsenal. He has also emerged as a potential target for AC Milan, who are seeking to strengthen their attack.

Milan sporting director Igli Tare has confirmed the club’s interest in the striker. “Hojlund is a good option for us,” he said.

“We’re evaluating him in the coming days, but the transfer market is unpredictable. We know we have to intervene in that position, and we also know they have to be players who can bring something extra to this group.”

However, Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) report that the Serie A side wouldn’t want to offer more than £29-30million (€34-35million).

Providing an update on the situation, Fabrizio Romano reported that United want Hojlund ‘to go’, and are ‘trying to find a solution’ before the September 1 deadline.

However, their valuation of the striker is said to be higher than what Milan are willing to pay.

Romano clarified: “They want to do a loan with an option to buy €6m loan fee, an option to buy around €40-45m. So negotiations will now follow for Hojlund, with interest from AC Milan and more clubs around Europe – not only AC Milan.”
